Swimming pool fences are required by law here in Wisconsin for any homeowner who wants any kind of pool on their property. Like any type of fence, different types of pool fences offer many different advantages and disadvantages.
First, ask yourself a few questions. Is it more important to maintain your privacy or is it more important to have a nice view of the area? Are aesthetic concerns more important to you or would you rather focus on keeping your pool fence low-maintenance? What are your local requirements?
Here are a few of the best options when installing a fence around your swimming pool.
Aluminum Fences
Aluminum fences are a durable, beautiful option. They are usually built to allow nice visibility and airflow. While they don’t provide much privacy they do look very classy! Don’t worry about rust – your fence company can coat the fence with a polyester powder coating that will make the fence rust resistant.
Vinyl Fences
Vinyl fences are very versatile. You can create all sorts of different styles and designs when you use vinyl for your pool fence, which is part of their appeal. As is always the case with vinyl, a vinyl pool fence remains very low maintenance. Vinyl is naturally water resistant, which makes it one of the best materials for a fence that’s going to be stationed near the water.
Wood Cedar Fences
Wood cedar fences are extremely attractive. They can also be built to allow you complete and total privacy for your pool, which is important if you’re self-conscious about being in your swim wear in front of your neighbors! They do require more maintenance, however, especially around the water. Of course, our high-quality Northern White Cedar wood fences mitigate the maintenance problem a great deal by being so naturally moisture-resistant. They can be stained to provide even more resistance if you wish.
Whatever style you choose you should be absolutely sure that you are installing a self-closing and latching gate. Your pool fence won’t be very helpful at keeping unwanted children safe and away from your pool if someone accidentally leaves the gate open! Fortunately these are easy to install on all three types of fences.
Sometimes there are also additional regulations that must be followed so they may limit the type of fence you can have. You need to check with your municipality. You could also check with a local fence contractor. If you have any questions about installing a fence for your swimming pool, feel free to give us a call at (262) 251-6766.
