Menomonee Falls Event: River Clean-up

Here’s a chance to get dirty, have some fun, and do some good, all at the same time.

The Milwaukee Riverkeeprs are organizing their annual Menomonee River clean-up event. They’re currently seeking volunteers.

The event will take place on April 21, 2013 (Earth Day). Everyone will start the day by meeting up at the Rotary Park on Fond du Lac Ave at 9:00 am before proceeding to their various clean-up sites.

The clean-up is expected to take about four hours. After that, it’s time to have some fun with prize drawings and a complimentary light lunch offered as a thank-you to hardworking volunteers.

The Milwaukee Riverkeepers will supply both gloves and bags so you can come as you are. You can also choose one of the 35 river areas that you’d like to tackle if there is a particular site that is near and dear to your heart.

It will be interesting to see what kinds of items are dredged from the river this year. Previous years have revealed all sorts of weird objects, including dinosaur bones, a 5 foot Burger King sign and the entire body of a car.

This year there is also a pressing need for Site Volunteers, for those who have leadership skills or who want the chance to develop and exercise them. Site Leaders are responsible for directing volunteers and making sure that they have everything that they need.

The Milwaukee Riverkeepers do ask that you pre-register for the event. They’ve made it easy with this online form.

The full address of the meeting location is:

Rotary Park #1
N85W74205 Fond du Lac Ave.,
Menomonee Falls, WI, 53051

The event will happen in any kind of weather, so mark those calendars in ink if you’re going! Click here for more information.
