Community Event: Grow It, Eat It!

Growing your own food is one of the most sustainable ways to enjoy your back yard. And the taste can’t be beat!

There’s a big difference in the taste of, say, lettuce pulled straight from the earth versus lettuce that you pick up at the supermarket. For one thing, the lettuce in your back yard has never known the touch of plastic.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. Instead, you can join the Milwaukee Master Gardeners, the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens Education Department and Birds and Blooms Magazine for an hour long seminar called “Grow It, Eat It!”

The seminar will be held on Sunday, May 4th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. It’s family friendly, so consider bringing the kids along for some awesome food-based education.

You’ll learn how growing your own food can support your health and/or weight loss goals. You’ll also get to prepare a garden-to-table meal with other participants.

You won’t walk away empty handed, either. Each participant gets seeds for their own edible garden.

The event costs $20 for member families and $25 for non-member families. Individual tickets cost $10 for members and $12 for non-members. The event will be held at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners, WI. You can call 414-525-5656 for more details.

If you go and have a great time please share your experience and maybe even some cool photos in the comments section below! We may not make it ourselves, but we love participating in our Milwaukee metro community and we love meeting new people.
