The phrase “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” applies to old cell phones and smart phones right now. At least, it does if you live in or near Fox Point.
Right now the Fox Point Police Department is collecting old Phones to benefit Advocates of Ozaukee County, the local domestic abuse shelter.
The recycling is sponsored by Shelter Alliance which recycles the phones and Advocates will receive a stipend for each phone. All types of cell phones and smart phones will be accepted. Chargers will not be accepted.
Shelter Alliance is part of GRC Wireless Recycling and is the largest cell phone recycling program in the United States. The cell phones are recycled through an environmentally responsible zero landfill process.
Phones can be turned in during normal business hours which are 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Thursday and 8 AM – Noon on Fridays at the Fox Point Police Department, 7300 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point, WI.
While this isn’t actually an event it’s still worth knowing about. It’s always pretty neat when you can help others without actually inconveniencing yourself!
Recycling cell phones is also an important way to conserve natural resources. This 4 minute video explains some of the issues involved with cell phone waste.
So if you donate your cell phone you’re doing good on multiple levels!
