Here at A-1 Fence we love getting out into nature. And the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Bayside is a great local spot to do just that.
That’s going to be especially true for bird lovers on May 11th on “International Migratory Bird Day.” This event runs from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm. The event is co-hosted by the center’s Bird City partners from Fox Point.
There will be lots of different educational bird hikes to choose from. The center’s hiking trails are absolutely gorgeous and are worth a visit even when there isn’t a special event, so if you love birds these hikes alone ought to be a blast.
There is also a special “eagle eye” challenge that takes place at the top of the center’s tower. You can also get in on a bird call contest as well as several other activities.
You can even get in on the contest action before the event if you send in a bird photo. You could win a one year family membership to the center, so check out the contest rules and consider entering.
Of all the birds that you’ll see at this event, however, we think that the raptors are the stars of the show. Schlitz Audubon Nature Center is home to fourteen rescued native Wisconsin raptors who will be making an appearance at the event. In fact, if you get out there a bit late the center will still be doing “Word with a Bird” shows with the raptors from 1:00 to 2:00.
Participants will get to meet the raptors up close and personal before witnessing them in free flight. While you’re there, consider sponsoring one of these magnificent birds.
The event is free for members, but it’s inexpensive family fun for non-members, too. Children get in for $5, and adults get in for $10. Here’s hoping the weather’s nice!
