In our last blog post we covered ways to clean and maintain your vinyl fence. Here are a few more things you should know about keeping your vinyl fence in good shape.
Watch the Heavy Machinery
Lawnmowers and vinyl fences don’t mix well. Clip the grass around your vinyl fence by hand, instead.
Lawnmowers can leave black tire marks on your fence. Sometimes lacquer thinner can remove the offending marks, but it’s better not to put them there in the first place if you can avoid it.
Weed whackers are way worse than lawnmowers, however. Weed whackers can actually scratch the surface of your vinyl. There is no easy repair for this kind of damage.
Be Careful With Projectiles
You might like to toss around a baseball every now and then. You might also enjoy shooting air guns. Either way, you need to be aware that high speed projectiles can dent your vinyl.
This won’t be an issue for most people. If it’s an issue for you, and you haven’t chosen what kind of fence you plan to buy yet, then consider looking into a cedar or aluminum fence instead.
Never Paint a Vinyl Fence
You can get a vinyl fence in just about any color you want, so there’s no need to paint it. Don’t even paint the fence if you change your color preferences five years after installing the fence.
Paint interferes with the vinyl’s ability to protect itself from the sun’s UV rays. It won’t look that great either. If you really need a color change you might just need to go ahead and install a brand new fence.

How do I fix small scratches that work crew left on my dark green pvc fence? Since colored pvc is only surface deep, we now have a white scratch that needs to be covered.
